In the Light of Air (2014) - Anna Thorvaldsdottir
International Contemporary Ensemble and Interactive Light Installation @ HARPA - Reykjavik, Iceland
I designed a custom sound-to-light interface that allows the musicians to control the
lights with their instruments and their own breathe. In collaboration with lighting
designer Nick Houfek

Song of the Tides (April 2010)
This was a data sonification collaboration with Stony Brook University Mathematics
Professor Tony Phillips . In order to better interpret data that modeled tidal patterns at
specific points on the globe, I created music which traces the local maxima and minima
that shows the time and heights of high/low tides at Venice and Ancona, Italy. This was
presented in the 2010 Matematica e Cultura conference in Venice, Italy along with Prof.
Phillips' other tidal research. MAX/MSP was used for this project.
Emotional Polarities (October 2009) - photo + video
In collaboration with cDACT as part of the Hybrid Geographies Exhibition
Christa Erickson, Joseph Esser, Levy Lorenzo, and Guozhu Luo Networked Installation: LCD, metal, computer, custom electronics
In exploring the opposing nature of communications in our society today, the duality
of hope and fear often emerge and are exploited in our larger sociopolitical context.
Emotional Polarities examines the extent to which this is reflected in our every day
conversations as embodied in live Twitter communications.
At the beginning of each day, the piece centers its monitor. Throughout the day the
position changes left and right registering the amount of language that used 'hope'
(right) versus the amount of communications that used 'fear' (left), suggesting
emotional trends. The monitor visually indicates the character of a particular message
with blue text on a white field for 'hope' and white text on a blue field for 'fear'.
Miss You () (October 2009) - photo + video
In collaboration with cDACT as part of the Hybrid Geographies Exhibition
Christa Erickson, Joseph Esser, Levy Lorenzo, Guozhu Luo, and Margaret Schedel Networked Installation: teletype, custom electronics, twitter, computer
Linking the newest communication technology, Twitter, to the oldest, Morse Code,
Miss You explores our desire for rapid long distance communication in a world
where we are increasingly geographically dispersed. Listening to real-time live
Twitter communications, every 50 times the phrase "miss you" appears in a 'tweet'
the telegraph key will transmit the phrase in audible Morse Code dots and dashes.
Miss You re-translates and quantifies these silent communications of this century
and makes them rhythmic and sonic once again.
Bose Media System (2007)
